Making Periods Fun and Easy to #TALK About with @ChiefMaxi (#REVIEW)

I really love fun boxes delivered to my door. Nothing is better then getting mail delivered but also getting to try new and fun items. That’s the great thing about the boxes is there are so many options to pick from you could be having something delivered everyday and it would be different. Plus anything that comes in fun boxes with goodies can make the dreariest of situations better, well I think so anyways.

My little sister is starting to come into her “womanhood” and lets just say it is a confusing time for her. Trying to figure out how much or how little to talk about can be challenging for a parent, caregiver or teacher as every child is so different. So many things can affect how a child responds to puberty. Age, maturity and even a special need can have a HUGE impact.

I recently came across a great company called Period Packs. What they do is send our special little ladies a surprise just in time to help welcome them into this monumental time in their lives. If you are not sure how to start the conversation they have took care of that aspect for you. As you go through the box it encourages a light conversation without any added pressure.

I was lucky enough to receive the Super Special Period Pack. The Chief Maxi of Period Packs has a daughter who was born with special needs. She knew that this time is challenging no matter what but throw in  Down syndrome, Autism, or an intellectual or physical disability it can be a bit more challenging. She wanted all girls to celebrate this milestone of becoming a women and the Super Special Period Pack was born.

“For young ladies with special needs. The Super Special Period Pack contains all the gifts and goodies as our Original Period Pack, but comes with a well-written guide to puberty called, The Girls’ Guide to Growing Up.  Written by Terri Couwenhoven (who has a daughter with Down syndrome) this photo-rich, easy-to-read (larger font) book provides comprehensive information written in a clear, practical format with tons of supportive and tasteful graphics, and provides a more detailed look at feminine hygiene and all things associated with menstruation.”

I was super excited to share this box with my sister. When I took out the box it was wrapped just like a gift. it made her really excited! Lets face it young or old who doesn’t like presents? So of course she kept asking when she could open it as she was dying to know what was inside.

I honestly had no idea what to expect as this was my first box from period packs so inside I was just as giddy as she was. First things first when open the box you will notice a little note attached to the top of the box. It gives you step by step instructions on how to enjoy your box. I found this a nice touch as you could get so overwhelmed in the moment or just be outright excited and start digging in (which is totally fine) and forget to enjoy the moment.

Of course the first thing she was met with was a bag of chips, a special treat to enjoy as we were about to talk about the journey and enjoy the treats that were hidden in the box. I was blown away with all the items that we found in our period Pack.  Some of the items were:

  • nail polish
  • chips
  • The Girls’ Guide to Growing Up (book)
  • m&ms
  • Scented Pencil in yummy root beer
  • period tracker
  • face wash
  • deodorant
  • organic Pads
  • organic Tampons
  • wristlet
  • cleansing Wipes
  • and lots more

My sister was really excited and then asked the question I was hoping she would. What is this all for? I smiled and really felt like this box was a huge ice breaker. I knew her mom was going to have the biggest conversation about this time in her life but I lightly touched base on it and we began to explore the book The Girls’ Guide to Growing Up. This photo-rich, easy-to-read (larger font) book provides comprehensive information written in a clear, practical format with tons of supportive and tasteful graphics, and provides a more detailed look at feminine hygiene and all things associated with menstruation. She was able to read with someone or alone if she felt like it.

Working with children myself I think this would be a great kit for any child. I love the book and really think it makes all difference in the Period Pack. I highly recommend checking out their website and seeing all the different packs the offer as there is something for everyone. Don’t worry if you don’t have a child or know one who is ready for one of these great boxes as they offer something for moms, teenagers and of course everyone in between and then some.

Check them out on Facebook, TwitterLinkedIn, and Pinterest so you can keep up to date with specials, new products and of course fun facts about our periods.
