Kit Kat Basketball Cake

My biggie just celebrated a birthday! When he was smaller I had made all his cake but for some reason stopped. So this year I decided I would get busy and create him something special. He currently is into sports right now basketball being his fav. So I got on google and looked for some ideas. I came across a picture of a cute Kit Kat Basketball Cake and decided it would be easy enough to recreate. I think it turned out Awesome! Check it out below!

Kit Kat Basketball Cake

Kit Kat Basketball Cake

What you need:

  • 2 9 inch layers of cake stacked and filled with whatever frosting you choose. ( issued this homemade vanilla buttercream frosting)
  • 6 Boxes of Reese’s Pieces ( I suggest going to the bulk store )
  • 12 Kit Kat Bars ( I bought the regular sized ones and had an extra just in case, thank goodness as I broke one lol )
  • Ribbon

What to do:

  1. Pick out all the brown and orange Reese’s Pieces. The left over yellow ones are yours to snack on! First you want to lay out the brown lines before doing anything else. Then fill in the rest of the top of the cake using the orange pieces. Snacking is allowed, so feel free to taste test the Reese’s pieces!
  2. Then break your Kit Kat bars in half so you are left with two bar per piece.  The take each piece and press firmly into the side of the cake. Some say start from the back but if we are honest I can not remember where I started from. You want to keep placing them around the cake until they are placed around the entire cake.
  3. Lastly place ribbon of your choice around the cake. I loved this part as it gave my bars a more secured look.
  4. Enjoy!

I wont be entering any cake competitions anytime soon but I am very happy with how this cake turned out. It was simple enough my youngest was able to help me make it and everyone commented on how fabulous it was. Simple enough to make and was so very tasty! This birthday boy was super happy and I love being able to do this for him.

Do you make or buy birthday cakes?
