Easy DIY Advent Calendar #Craft

Christmas is coming!!! I know we are only in October but I really love getting my craft on early so I can enjoy the days that lead up to the big day. One of our favourite things are advent calendars. To be honest the chocolate ones are often forgotten. This means by the 11ths day they are not just eating one piece of chocolate, but MANY. It drives me insane. We have tried many different ones over the years. My favourite is a wooden Christmas tree. Each day they open a small drawer that contains a small ornament to hang. It has been around for a bit and it still is a favourite.

This year I wanted to step up my game and make something a little different. Import Dragons had sent me a wonderful box of goodies. I just did not want to stuff them all into a stocking so I decided to make a DIY Advent Calendar for my youngest. He is in love with those Grossery Gang toys and they were the perfect size for what I wanted to do. Thanks to Pinterest there are so many ideas out there. Check out what I created below.

Easy DIY Advent Calendar

This craft was one of the easiest ones I have done. I simply used a 12 cup muffin tin that I had bought at the dollar store. You can find a muffin tin that makes 24, I just preferred the 12. Plus the Grossery Gang pack I used had 12 in it so it worked well. I then cut out 12 circles from various “winter” themed paper. The circles took a bit of adjusting as I had used the top of my cup as a template. Once I found a size that worked I traced it out 11 more times.

Then once I had the paper all cut I added the numbers on to the them. I just cut out paper squares and wrote the numbers on but you could find stickers and do it that way also.  Then I placed one Grossery Gang character into each cup. Then I fastened some tape on the inside of the circle and stuck it over the openings on the muffin tin. You could use magnetic tape but I had none at the time of making this.

Once I had all the circles in place I added some fun embellishments. The only thing I regret is not finding a muffin tin with a hole it. So I can’t hang this one on the wall. But hubby said if I really wanted he would drill one but I am hoping to use this again after Christmas so we left it be.

This DIY Advent Calendar is so much to make and I know my guy will love uncovering a different surprise each day. I love that there are so many different items you could hide in each cup and are able to customize it to your child’s likes.

What do you do to count down to Christmas?

I love your Advent Calendar. Since our children are adults, and the grand parents are giving out calendars, we just enjoy the children.

What a cute idea. We have Advent calendars too, each of my seven has one that I cross-stitched for them with a Christmas scene on it (they are all different) and 24 rings for the presents to be tied too. I’ve also made 5 for my grandchildren, a 6th is almost finished then there are 2 more to do then perhaps I’m finished. LOL

This is a super idea. Thank goodness I found this in time to create and do our own count down to xmas. I have some ideas to fill it with but I am going to look at the dollar store to see what I can find.
